We have experienced some wild and windy weather in Tassie this past week. We’ve had rain, snow and wind gusts up to 150 km/h resulting in uprooted trees, damage to several buildings in Hobart city and flooding in some areas. Thankfully, other than power outages and some phone and internet disruption, our house and property escaped unscathed.
Our three children, enjoying the freedom of mid-year school holidays, were excited to be able to experience a rare snow day at home.
Sewing and blogging, due to school holiday chaos, an ongoing kitchen renovation and the above mentioned power and internet disruptions, has been mostly abandoned this week. However, I did manage to sew my Simply Colorful II charm square blocks together to make a small quilt top.
As mentioned previously, I had considered using these blocks to make either a table runner or a larger quilt by adding sashing between the blocks. (The free Ocean Breeze pattern finishes at 36 inches square).
I trialled adding sashing strips but quickly decided it interfered with the lovely “pinwheel” intersection between the blocks.
So, my finished flimsy is as per the written pattern although I will add some borders to bring the finished size up to 40″ square.
It’s a return to our normal hectic routine tomorrow as the kids head back to school and I return to work. I am feeling optimistic of a productive third quarter with lots of finishes!

I’m glad you haven’t been too bothered by the weather Deb. it’s odd for me to see the pics of snow where you live when it’s 90 degrees (F) at my house. 🙂 The good news is your quilt top looks amazing! I agree that sashing would have broken up the design too much…it’s perfect this way!

As I sit here in the 32 degree heat (C), it is hard to imagine snow! Lovely quilt — your piecing is so accurate! Is it paper pieced?

It took me a second to realize where this blog is coming from. I figured it had to be somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere…I love this piece you have going on. It’s quite striking. I like the design and the colors, too.
