Wild Winter Weather

We have experienced some wild and windy weather in Tassie this past week. We’ve had rain, snow and wind gusts up to 150 km/h resulting in uprooted trees, damage to several buildings in Hobart city and flooding in some areas. Thankfully, other than power outages and some phone and internet disruption, our house and property escaped unscathed.

Our three children, enjoying the freedom of mid-year school holidays, were excited to be able to experience a rare snow day at home.

Sewing and blogging, due to school holiday chaos, an ongoing kitchen renovation and the above mentioned power and internet disruptions, has been mostly abandoned this week. However, I did manage to sew my Simply Colorful II charm square blocks together to make a small quilt top.

As mentioned previously, I had considered using these blocks to make either a table runner or a larger quilt by adding sashing between the blocks.  (The free Ocean Breeze pattern finishes at 36 inches square).

I trialled adding sashing strips but quickly decided it interfered with the lovely “pinwheel” intersection between the blocks.

So, my finished flimsy is as per the written pattern although I will add some borders to bring the finished size up to 40″ square. 

It’s a return to our normal hectic routine tomorrow as the kids head back to school and I return to work. I am feeling optimistic of a productive third quarter with lots of finishes!
